Who Has More Road Rage, Women or Men?

I'll be the first one to admit, I am a not a great driver. However, when it comes to "road rage" I would consider myself to be on the calmer side of the spectrum, but are all women as tranquil?

A new study by CareerBuilder.com finds that road rage is worse in women than in men. Out of the 3,892 people they surveyed, 61% of women said they've experienced road rage versus 56% of men.... first of all that survey should read " More women admit to road rage than men". Sure I may be prone to use my horn a lot -but lets face it that's what its there for!

In my experience men are 1- more aggressive at the wheel and 2- aren't afraid of speeding up to fling some other driver the bird or scream obscenities from their window. All men think they are good drivers. I can openly admit I'm not a good driver but you'll never hear a guy confess the same.

The study also goes on to say that younger adults are also road rage culprits, reporting that 68% of adults age 25-34 admit having road rage versus 47% of those over 55.

An easy explanation of this would be that all the younger drivers are yelling at all the older drivers to be more careful behind the wheel... You've all experienced it before. You get caught off by some driver who instantly slows down once they clear into the next lane.. your pissed off so you drive up to see who the annoying delinquent is only to catch a glimpse of an elderly couple in the front seat and behind the driving wheel. They don't have any 'Silver Alerts' for young drivers now do they?

Sorority Girls Today: Rushing To Be Perfect?

The New York Times ran an interesting and in my opinion disturbing piece the other day on how girls today are rushing for college sororities. I rushed and spent some time pledging a sorority in college and it is baffling what girls are supposedly doing nowadays to get into the sorority of their choice.

So what are these desperate young college girls dumbing down to now? They ( and their stepford mothers) are PAYING people to "coach" them on how to be the perfect sorority candidate.

According to the Times, students and their parents are dishing out up to $8,000 for a weekend of services that include resume building, fashion and wardrobe guidance and lessons on how to make good small talk.

Now unless all of these participants have been home schooled their whole lives and have never turned on a TV or looked through a magazine or something along those lines, how the hell does any intelligent woman (I'm assuming intelligent because they did get into college) NOT know how to make small talk? What's even worse is the advice this so-called "image consultant" is giving out.

“I teach them how to make interesting small talk: what you saw at the cinema, a trip to Europe. I don’t know too many 20-year-olds who are having a debate about economics,” Ms. von Sperling told the Times.

Of course, why act like you are intelligent when you can chit-chat about the latest Katty Perry movie and the expensive trips your parents fronted for you.

Another prep-school for rushes, Mariette Studios claims that " Sorority members also have higher GPAs than a typical college woman, and have higher retention rates as well."

Though after looking through the National Pan-Hellenic Council website I couldn't find one statistic on how good sorority sisters' GPA's are... hmm I wonder why.. In my own experience I can truthfully say that many girls who rushed and then pledged were barely passing their classes because of all of the ridiculous pledge events and late-night hazing sessions. Then once you are in, you're constantly juggling a jammed class schedule with social events you "have" to go to. Though if you are one of the lucky ones its been said that many and I mean many houses have a long stack of old exams and tests for their freshmen class to cheat off of.

One last point I have to mention from the Times piece was their comment that, "Many aspiring sisters spend their summer working out and dieting." One rush told them, "Rushing shakes your confidence level, you are being judged on how you look.”

There was an on-going rumor at my college that one particular sorority would make their pledges stand on chairs in their bra and underwear while they circled their fat with sharpies- what a close and caring sisterhood right?

Believe me, I'm not some crazy Greek-hater here to bash those who want to join. Like I said, I too rushed and pledged ( well, half-pledged- I depledged after a few weeks for personal reasons), It only drives me crazy-mad that these old bats in the south are ripping off innocent and eager young women in their sketchy schemes that flood freshmen minds with thoughts on how they think you should talk, dress and act. Doesn't society cram enough perfect model-esque images into their heads already?

The Title Game: Use Your Words Wisely

Guys are never easy to read, so if you have a burning question you've been dying to ask but are too afraid to, what do you do?

In continuing with the relationship title topic.. I asked a group of guys to explain what a girl should and should not say when you broach the question of your relationship status.

If you HAD to have the conversation with a girl you DID like and DIDN’T want to lose, What is the best way she could bring up the “what are we/ title conversation”?

ANSWER: I think people stray away from honesty too often and try to hide stuff. Guys and girls both. If you’re that serious about someone you shouldn’t be afraid to be upfront with what you're doing/thinking.

ANSWER: No reason for convo, the girl will know when she hits gf status.

ANSWERTrick question there is no Best way. But IF it HAD to be done, don't do it in front of the guys friends or family. You will get a half-ass answer, awkward silence from those in the audience, a pissed off guy when you are finally alone, and a delayed engagement ring.

ANSWER: If you are really into a girl and she is really into you, you normally don’t have to have that discussion its just known and felt. It will come up casually.

ANSWERShe should just straight out ask.  If I liked her enough to not want to lose her, I'd rather she just be honest instead of playing games.

What’s the worst thing a girl could say when trying to figure out if they are more to you than just a fling or someone you casually care about?

ANSWERIf you find out the answer to this let me know. I’m always the one trying to make the step from casual to serious too fast.

ANSWER: Saying "I'm pregnant". Never never cool. Never.

ANSWERAsking about other girls I hang out with.

ANSWER: Any type of ultimatum or ordering in general.

ANSWERIf after one sleepover she tells you she thought about her husband leaving to go to work and she is referring to you. THAT IS A DEAL BREAKER… also talk about how you are such a great couple in front of your friends when you have hung out just a few times. Unlike girls, guy’s don’t like to talk about their feelings with other dudes, so if you assume something in front of his friends you might as well get your things because you are gone.

The Title Game: Are You His Girlfriend or Not?

We already know guys don't like talking about their feelings, but why is it that once your dating  your never really sure if your his girlfriend or not? You'd hate to be "that girl" and ask the big ugly question " what are we".. but if you don't and surely they won't how will you ever know?

Girls have battled with this problem since the 60's when asking to go steady was like asking someone to prom. So to shed some much needed light into the cluttered and complicated minds of men, I consulted with a group of guys from all walks of life. Some are single and some are not, some are happily single and some are not, some are happily committed and some are not...a well-rounded array of perspectives.. only the best for my reader.

In a relationship, when is it acceptable for a guy or a girl to bring up the  “what are we” conversation?
a)      After 2 dates
b)      after you sleep with them more than once
c)       after a month of talking and dating
d)      anytime after 4 months
                  e)      other ( fill in your own response here)

 Results
3/6 picked C-after a month of talking and dating
2/6 picked E-other; let the natural progression of a relationship take place
other; Depends on circumstances

Why do guys hate the ‘title’ conversation so much?

Answer: Once there is a 'title', we then need to refer to you by that title, therefore limiting our ability to hook up with other girls.  If we never have that conversation, we can claim that we didn't know it would be an issue that we're seeing other people.  Plausible deniability.

Answer: Guys will never be the first to bring this up. Plus, a guy will continue to see (or try) to see other people until they are cutoff. Guys need negative incentives, girls love positive reinforcement.  Girl gets a haircut, you better notice. I don't ask girls if my biceps look awesome after going to the gym.

AnswerWe are guys, we are chemically imbalanced to enjoy the questions because that discussion can result in drama and only G*y guys like drama.

Answer: First off guys don’t want a title because they don’t want the expectations that also come with a title. If they are going on dates and having fun with a girl, they want that to keep up without having to do the other stuff. The second there is a title involved there is a whole different stigma of what is expected.

After a month or two of dating, what signs do men give off that should tell a woman, "were over sleeping with you and now want to walk away”?

a)      You don’t call and text as often
b)      You have two days off in a row and you don’t talk to her at all
c)       The last time you hung out with her you didn’t make plans to see her next (even if your job schedule is different or busy)
d)      Other

Results:
3/ 6 picked A- You don’t call and text as often
2/6 picked D-Other; All of the above
Other; we'll probably just stop calling and texting all together. If you call and ask why, we'll make up some excuse to avoid having to tell the truth.

Stay Tuned for Part 2~

New York City at it's Finest

For the 2nd time this summer, Manhattanhenge hits Manhattan — "Manhattanhenge" is when the sun aligns with the city’s street grid, appearing to descend between buildings. Manhattanhenge also occurs twice during sunrise, in the winter- usually harder to see though and takes place in December and January.

Eureka! Cranberries DO Help Urinary Tract Infections

                                                   News Alert!

Sure you might have always heard the old wive's tale that if you were ever to get a UTI all you need to do is drink a bunch of cranberry juice to cure it.. Guess all those crazy wives were right. because now there is  concrete evidence to back it up their theory!

Recent research reveals that certain compounds in cranberries might actually prevent bacteria from attaching to tissue in the urinary tract .. aka it keeps the infections away!

Although doctors aren't positive on exactly what form is best to use ( in juice form or capsule) either type can  still help.

"Finally, the science is catching up to what our mothers have been telling us for so many decades," Dr. Deborah Wing, who has studied urinary tract infections at the University of California, Irvine said.

Bonus for the cranberry method versus antibiotics?
1-Drinking or taking cranberry tablets for long periods of time won't stop working when your body's bacteria builds up resistance to it like it does for drugs used to treat infections.
2- It's cheaper than most ( if not all) antibiotics you might get from your doctor plus you don't need a prescription to buy a jug of juice at the store.

And don't forget you don't have to use just cranberry juice to get the health benefits..Cranberry Vodka cocktails work just as good!

Consumer Alert! Is Your Bike Ruining Your Sex Life?

I always knew there was a reason why I hated spin class.

A new study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that riding a bike can in fact affect how much female riders enjoy sex.

The culprit of this nasty news is the heinous handlebar!

The study found that setting your handlebar lower than the seat increases pressure and decreases sensation in the genital area. - Ouch.

The more pressure there is to a woman's genitals the more likely you are to get nerve damage down there-hence reducing your ability to feel any good vibrations ( in your female friend area).

Researcher Marsha K. Guess said in a release about the study Monday, " ""Chronic insult to the genital nerves from increased saddle pressures could potentially result in sexual dysfunction."

So what do you do if you just bought a new class package at SoulCycle?!

Experts say all you need to do is make sure you re-position your handlebars higher so your sitting more upright which puts more pressure on your your sit bones instead of your ever-important genital tissues.

And a word to those male readers out there- past research has also shown that cycling for men could cause erectile dysfunction- Cycle with Caution.

Can You Fake Love for Love?

Ever wonder why a lot of Hollywood actors get involved with their co-stars when their filming?

Brad and Angelina acted out their lustful love for one another in Mr. & Mrs. SmithKristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in Twilight, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer in True BloodFreddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar in I Know What You Did Last Summer.. the list goes on and on.. so does behaving, even if its acting lead to real emotions?

New research by a leading psychologist, Richard Wiseman, says 'behaving like you are in love can lead to actually falling in love'.

Wiseman says 'Actions are the quickest, easiest and most powerful way to instantly change how you think and feel.' - So is this why you become attached or foster a crush on the guy you made-out with at a party and then walked around with his hand around your shoulder all night?

Wiseman's study along with research done by Harvard academic Dr. Robert Epstein basically suggests that actions and behaviors can lead to emotions.

In Epstein's research he looks at arranged marriages and says the connections in arranged marriages are twice as strong and grow over time..some relationship experts say this could be because the matches are carefully planned with interests, life goals and family lifestyles all taken into consideration. Whereas couples who marry for love are distracted by lust and passion and therefore don't take those important details into consideration.

Epstein said, " The idea is we must not leave our love lives to chance. We plan our education, our careers and our finances but we’re still uncomfortable with the idea that we should plan our love lives."

An interesting thought about your love life, maybe some people should give match.com and matchmakers a shot at planning a possible love life for themselves after all.

Or maybe if you gave the nice guy who isn't that attractive a shot and acted like you like him you will eventually fall for him?

Who knows.. but it is something to consider, it worked in She's All That didn't it?

When You Drink Too Much...

I think I am going to make this a weekly posting.. One funny video of someone horribly drunk doing something horribly stupid and hilarious.

As my close friends and family would tell you, I love cats. Grew up with them as a child and think they are one of the funniest pets around.. But with that said, I would never do this.. I love my cats more than that.

Do you Fear Childbirth?

I certainly do. Always have and always will. The movies, the Lifetime reality shows and of course all the multiple horror stories you hear from family and friends has been ingrained in my head and as a result I now petrified of my own personal D-Day.. aka Delivery day. As much as mothers want to tell you it doesn't really hurt or you won't remember any of the pain as soon as they hand you your new bundle of joy.. is .. well, its Bull shit.

You expect me to believe that a small infant- head and all- is going to go through a little tiny hole -a precious hole at that- and its not going to rip, tear and cut open your vagina and it's NOT going to hurt?... Ha- good try..Giving birth, I'm sure is all magical and amazing but to me its kind of alien-like- if you've seen the movie Aliens with Sigourney Weaver you know what I'm talking about. Something living in your stomach that you shoots out after 9 months seems a little more bizarre than miraculous to me.

However now it seems that my fear is going to be the death of me.

A new study found that women who are terrified of giving birth ( which is 5-20% of women) will spend longer times in labor. ( Just what I needed to hear). They found that women who feared childbirth spent 1 hour and 32 minutes longer in labor than women who weren't afraid.

They also found that women who feared childbirth were more likely to need an emergency cesarean.

Dr. Stuart Fischbein told CNN " We have a society where sensationalism sells. They're pounded with information [about] things that can go wrong with childbirth. Of course you develop fears."

I wonder if you can go to a hypnotist to cure your fear of childbirth?
